Semiahmoo Arts Society presents the 8th South End Summit at the Wheelhouse Theatre. Featuring award-winning jazz bands from Semiahmoo, Earl Marriot, and Elgin Park Secondary Schools, special-guest artist, Derry Byrne, as well the presentation of the Dal Richards Scholarship. The South End Summit works towards sharing our local schools’ music programs with the community. Zero – 360, Literary Open Mic is a collaboration of emerging and experienced writers who each share up to six minutes of poetry, short stories, chapters of novels in progress, memoirs or song lyrics. Sign up opens at 7:00pm. Readings begin at 7:30pm. Zero to 360, our long-running Open Mic series is back, but this year, with a change of venue. Four Seasons at the Fen Inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons this Photography Exhibition & Community Event features images of the Serpentine Fen captured over the space of one calendar year by local photographer and arts advocate Barbara Cooper. Barbara’s keen eye for composition and her sense of place communicates nature in transition through the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. On Saturday, Feb 23 meet the stewards of the Fen. This drop-in event includes exhibits, demonstrations, and activities for the entire family!

Four Seasons at the Fen: Inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons this Photography Exhibition & Community Event features images of the Serpentine Fen captured over the space of one calendar year by local photographer and arts advocate Barbara Cooper. Barbara’s keen eye for composition and her sense of place communicates nature in transition through the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. On Saturday morning, March 2nd, 9:00am join Liz Walker of the White Rock and Surrey Naturalists for a guided walk of the Serpentine Fen. “Writing the Rhythms of Nature” with Heidi Greco Saturday, Mar 2nd, 1:30pm – 3:30pm, South Surrey Rec. & Arts Centre This workshop will complement Barbara Cooper’s photographic exhibit “Four Seasons at the Fen.” We’ll consider elements that characterize the transition of seasons, with a focus on those changes throughout the year which we experience here on the Peninsula. In addition, we’ll explore some poetic forms that may provide new approaches to writing about the world around us.
