Take Care, Woodcut series To fully take care, we are asked by others to check our decisions and our acts. The fashion of taking care of ourselves – and only ourselves – also seems to loom large in the current global political climate. If a citizen’s scope of responsibilities narrows to only personal concerns how do greater social, economic and environmental goals become realized?
Alterations, Screenprints & photocollage From photographs originally taken in 2001, with her Dad’s Pentax SLR camera the artist has recycled or manipulated them into something new. Selecting, cutting, assembling and pasting them into new images. The coloured patterns were inspired by the half-tone process as well as the day-to-day patterns of the city and various packaging. The result is a combination of Pop Art flavour and Edward Hopper/Alex Colville/film noir aspects as well.
Hannah Bennett works from her print studio located at Maker Cube Makerspace in Langley City, BC. She graduated with a BFA from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2011 and continues to make art alongside her role as Arts Progammer for the City of New Westminster. Hannah has worked in the arts and culture field as an artist, programmer, instructor, paint-maker, commercial screen printer, curator, prepator, fine art framer, art school technician and volunteer for over a decade. She is happiest when she is making.
