Local Landscapes – Opening Reception

Gary’s impressionist paintings exhibition, Local Landscapes, will be on display in the Turnbull & Corridor Galleries at South Surrey Rec. & Arts Centre Oct 22 – Nov 14, 2019.
Opening Reception: Oct 24, 7pm-9pm.

Local Landscapes is a series of familiar, beloved by those South of the Fraser. Gary’s landscapes are predominantly done using primary colors, with a palate knife with some brush work, or with a brush using broad strokes. Most of the paintings in this solo show, were completed during the spring and summer, 2019.
Gary D. Wait, PhD, M.Sc, B.Sc is a Retired Nuclear physicist Gary Wait, is a retired nuclear physicist from TRIUMF, the accelerator Lab on the UBC Campus. He and his late wife, Carol, have attended various Art workshops and evening classes over the years. His physics career involved extensive travel and he and Carol lived in Switzerland for a year where he was involved in experiments at CERN and later in the design and fabrication of accelerator components for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). He and Carol have been fortunate to visit many of the great art galleries in Europe and the US. Over the past several years Gary was a caregiver for Carol and was not able to get much painting time. Carol made him promise to get into back art work after she was gone. He is strongly influenced by the group of seven and the impressionists. His work has been shown in joint exhibitions with Carol in the Richmond Art Gallery, the Vancouver Chinese Cultural Centre, Surrey art gallery, Delta art galleries in Tsawassen and North Delta and Semiahmoo art centre. His most recent show was held in his family owned restaurant “Jan’s on the Beach” in White Rock In Dec 2018, along with Carol’s paintings.
