On completion of our Grisaille, we will proceed with turning it into... Read More

Federation of Canadian Artists Workshop – Backgrounds, Layering & Glazing with Janice Robertson

November 25 @ 9:30 am - November 26 @ 4:30 pm

Backgrounds can be tricky for many artists. The default is often to just paint literally from your reference photo. Or to not do a background at all. Sometimes this is a good choice but sometimes it isn’t. This workshop will introduce several different background treatments that students can add to their tool kit. A change in background treatment can have a profound effect on the look of your painting. The goal will be to encourage participants to think outside the box a little more. Through demos and one to one instruction, participants will explore layering, glazing, and wet-in-wet techniques; both in the background and the subject. The demo will be... Read More
