Award -Winning Writer, Deborah Campbell
Semiahmoo Arts is pleased to present the author of Disappearance in Damascus.
The true story of a remarkable relationship between two women—Deborah Campbell (the award-winning Canadian journalist, and Ahlam (an Iraqi woman working as a “fixer” for Western media in Syria as it hovers on the brink of chaos). Ahlam is snatched by the secret police; Campbell details her months-long search for her while delving into the roots of war in Syria and Iraq.
- Deborah Campbell is an award-winning writer known for combining culturally immersive fieldwork with literary journalism in places such as the Middle East, Cuba, Mexico and Russia. She has won many awards, including several National Magazine Awards as well as the Dave Greber Award for social justice writing. Her work has been published in 11 countries and in 6 languages. She teaches narrative non-fiction in UBC’s Writing Program.
This event will be held at the Turnbull Gallery at South Surrey Rec. & Arts Centre on Thursday, March 23th at 7 pm.
