Participate in Double Exposure: Ekphrastic Poetry Challenge and you could be chosen to share your work at the Double Exposure Closing Ceremony on April 20, 2016 at South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre. Surrey’s Poet Laureate Renee Saklikar will be in attendance to read the poems.
About the Project:
Double Exposure creates a platform for creating dialogue between photography and poetry. This interdisciplinary event showcases the talent of our community, and honours two popular annual events: Capture Photography Festival as well as Canada’s National Poetry Month. It not only celebrates talented community-based artists, but also generates opportunities for their connection and growth. The purpose of Double Exposure is to showcase a wide range of photography while forging ekphrastic poetry throughout the exhibition by local writers and poets.
So, what’s ekphrastic poetry?
The word ‘ekphrasis’ comes from the Greek, and means description or interpretation. It explores links between visual arts and the art of words. Learn more in our Ekphrastic Poetry Writing Workshop.
Between April 1st and 14th during the gallery hours come and produce poetry based on the photography exhibition in the Turnbull Gallery at South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre. Email your completed poetry to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Ekphrastic Poetry Submission” in the subject line. Deadline to submit your poems is April 14th at 5pm. For gallery hours click here.
