2010 Surrey Civic Treasure Recipient Chris Thornley will be this year’s Surrey International Film Festival host on November 2nd! SIFF is very excited to have such a prominent leader in the arts to host the event. Taking place at the Surrey Arts Centre, from November 1st – 2nd, the Surrey International Film Festival will be bringing together aspiring filmmakers from around the world to showcase their work. The City of White Rock in partnership with Semiahmoo Arts  is currently accepting submissions to our “Good Vibrations: Music and Dance in Art” exhibition as part of our Art on Display program. All artists are invited to submit a maximum of three works of art.  This group exhibition focuses on music, dance and movement as inspiration for creating art and will showcase different interpretations of this theme. A public meeting is being held on a proposed Performing Arts Centre and Contemporary Arts Cafe & Gallery. The new centre, proposed as part of a residential tower development planned for 152nd Street at 19th Ave, may be able to help create a cultural hub in South Surrey. The public meeting is a drop-in format and will last from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Tuesday October 22nd at the Rotary Field House, 14600 Rotary way. International Artist Day is back and White Rock is hosting this celebration to honour artists. With so many talented individuals and so much to do, International Artist day has turned into a week long celebration that will showcase visual and performing arts! The festival is a community event and everyone is welcome — this is a chance to meet and get to know the creative talent in our own backyard.   Rain Couldn’t Stop Our Enthusiastic Artists Paint the Town was held on Saturday, September 28th with 21 artists painting ‘en plein air’ around the City of White Rock for 3 hours. Some artists were located under pop-up tents while others were in front of local shops that sponsored them. There were even a few passers-by who stopped to watch the artists creating while taking in the sights and sounds around them. In spite of the cold, rainy weather some wonderful works of art were created.
